"Real Florida Day"

In keeping with my last post I had to share some photos of our "Real Florida Day". I did not take as many as I wanted too but I was busy flea market shopping along the way. Even with gas prices at $3.50 a gallon we decided to take a ride up RT17 to see what we could find our final destination being beautiful "Ravine Gardens" for a picnic. Along the way I found 2 great "REAL" Flea Markets not like the one In Daytona Beach where you can buy the same stuff you can get at Walmart but the "Real" kind where you find all sorts of things and some you wonder what in the world it is. I found a few baskets (I am always on the hunt for baskets), some muffin tins ( I use these to make crayon cakes), a HUGE set of Lincoln Logs for $5. So we continued on up the road and while we were talking and the girls were napping we both remembered being kids and passing a honey stand on one of the roads close by. So we decided to see if we could find it and if it was still there. I was so happy when it was still there. I had to jump right out and take some pictures oh and of course buy some fresh Orange Blossom Honey. I love this place it is an old farm house and out by the road sits this old broken down shack. You pick the size jar you want and leave the money in a little mail box, an honer system at it's best. Where do you see this kind of thing anymore? We also bought a bag of oranges from an honor system road side stand down the road a bit.We came right home and made Whole Orange muffins with our take from the road side stands. We then traveled on following Rt17 North until we reached "Ravine Gardens" . This is also a place we both remember from our childhoods. It is a really unique place and this time of year is spectacular with the azalea ablaze in color.. that being said we were a week late for our picnic and missed the Azalea in full bloom. We still had a nice time and the girls really enjoyed the time we spent there. After the Picnic we headed down Rt 207 to St. Aug. for a little detour from real Florida for a cup of coffee at Barnes and Noble. I had promised Sophia that she could buy a book, she chose Beauty and the Beast. :) We ended the night outside on our front lawn gazing at the "Near Moon" and singing "Moon Moon Moon" by Laurie Berkner ... it was a great day and we are all looking forward to our next "Real Florida" adventure..
